Narrative
Narrative from Ian Garforth, Avon Round Coord.
Many thanks to the 8 teams and 36 pilots who made the best of challenging conditions in which the promised weather favourable to XC never really materialised. Pilots instead approached the day with good humour throughout, and whilst this meant that the small site at Selsley was often busy, both with BCC'ers, and other recreational pilots, many were happy to make the right decision to stagger their launch times and take themselves out of congestion in order to help the day run smoothly.
The challenge in the conditions is particularly evident in considering the small number of scoring flights. Commendation and admiration must therefore go to Barry Johnson (North Devon - 27.3km), David McLeod (Long Mynd - 16.5km), Mark Simpson (Malverns - 8.9km), Adam Kozlowski (Derbyshire - 7.1km), and Richard Gill (Avon - 5.2km) for their scoring flights. After such difficult weather this year, it was great to see so many pilots out. Hopefully we can get more BCC action before the year is out.
